18A – Create a Customer Avatar

What kind of hobbies does your customer have? What kind of car do they tend to drive? (What color is it?) What TV shows do they watch? Do they have children? Are any of them adopted? What are their favorite books, and who are their favorite politicians? How old are they? How old do they feel? And so on. The richer the detail, the better.
The market I would try to target would be military retirees. Service members get an additional 50% disability rating if they have Sleep Apnea. Thus, just about every Service Member wants to be tested to try to get the rating. If they are diagnosed, they must show the VA compliance reports. This means they will be using the CPAP masks and in targeting this demographic, I am ensured that every three months they will receive a new supply of masks. This is beneficial, because I know that they will always have an extra mask on hand while the other is being cleaned. My customers are retired and or on their way to retirement. They have been all over the world, serving their country and want to relax. They like to fish and have bbqs. They drive a Lexus because they want comfort in their later years. It’s definitely not a red Lexus, it would be a darker color that is cool and calm. Although they are done with serving the military, they still watch those Band of Brothers episodes. Their children are long gone and they have grandchildren now. Some are adopted, but they are from all over the world and joined the United States Military. The ones that read, probably read business articles off the internet. They are both Republicans and Democrats. They served the country so they have a lot of respect for the leaders. They are aged 45 and older. They feel older, because they have been to war and their bodies are worn out.
What do you have in common with the customer avatar? If you have anything in common with the avatar, do you think that is a coincidence? Why?
What I have in common with my customer avatar is that I am a military spouse, so I understand the sacrifices that they gave to our country. Additionally, I work at a Sleep Clinic so I can relate to their Sleep Apnea needs. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I have something in common with my avatar, because I wisely targeted a segment that I related to and that could relate to me.

Hi Elizabeth, I really enjoyed reading your blog post. One particular thing you talked about that I really liked was the fact you are willing to offer a great discount to anyone who served in the military and fulfills the requirements. I also really like how you described the specific brand of car your potential customer would drive too. Overall really liked your blog post.
ReplyDeleteHey Liz,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I definitely enjoyed reading about your avatar's life story and it was cool to see the similarities between your life and his. Having said that you work in a sleep clinic, do you plan on opening up your own business and pursuing your own career path? Sorry if this is too personal, I remember you saying your a Business Administration major and was just wondering what you planned on doing outside of this class, it seems you do really enjoy learning. As for the post though, I find it interesting we put so many similarities between ourselves and our prototypical customer, largely because we want the people who remind us of ourselves and who we like to be the ones buying from us, so I thought this was intriguing. Good job!
Hey Liz,
ReplyDeleteI love the detail you put into this. You always have great detail but this was over the top. I feel like I know this man and can see him in front of me. Being around military personnel all the time I can understand this completely. Again I like that you have an intimate relationship with your customer. Again awesome post like always.
